Assignment #1.1
This is my watch. There are a few key features to this watch that make this artifact indispensable to my daily life.
1. Displays the time, in exact hours, minutes, and seconds, as well as the day of the week and the day of the month.
2. Ergonomic knit strap prevents chafing.
3. Chronological clock makes easy timing (to see how long it takes to to something.)
4. Timer clock allows to count down a time (such as one hour, after which it will set off an alarm.)
5. 3 separate alarm times.
Forget my cell phone, this watch is like 4 apps in one.

Assignment #1.2
1. I eat cereal quickly, which unfortunately causes a dribble of the milk down my chin
2. There are many great social media unification apps. But I use Twitter and Weibo. There’s not really a good system for connecting American and Chinese internets yet.
3. I often write 4-line rhyme lyrics, and I want to make sure that I haven’t overused a given rhyme (if I had a nickel for every time I had to rhyme “rhyme” and “time”…)
4. Multimedia Fusion is a great game development software. But creating an internet game for it is needlessly complicated.
5. I haven’t yet found a good rolling backpack. They’re either built too much like suitcases, or they’re flimsy and break easily.
6. There’s so many Chinese students who want to practice English, and there are American people who want to learn Chinese, why isn’t there a good system to connect these two groups of people?
7. Tying a tie is so complicated. I really wish it was easier. It should be more intuitive
8. I often try to teach people how to play guitar, but it can be difficult to give them the confidence to play out a basic pop song. I’d really like something I could attach onto a guitar that would display the hand positions inside the neck itself, so that you could just move your hand there, and you would know how to play guitar. It would make my TEACHING guitar so much easier. And it would be great for jam sessions, if one guitarist could just transmit it to the other guitarists in the group.
9. I absolutely hate writing drum loops. Why can’t I just hit some sort of “randomize” button and it gives me a drum loop I can use?
10. One of the best ways to improve your drawing is to try to copy the style of people who are better than you. There’s so much stuff available online, if there was some way to practice drawing right through my browser…
My Chosen Gap:
I’ve been thinking about the “rolling backpack” problem since high school. Most people use backpacks, but there have been reports that say backpacks are bad for your back. One of the challenges is making it useful, study, and stylish. Most people avoid rolling backpacks because they don’t come in an appropriate style. Although I don’t have much prior experience with physical design, I think that this task would be simple enough to prototype in 8 weeks as long as I can figure out where to find materials.
